About Alex Gurvits
Alex Gurvits was born and raised in Boston, MA. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Cum Laude with Honors at Northwestern University before moving to New York City where he currently resides. He is the founder of Cool Moose Pens, a project which seeks to revive the lost art of Sephardic style pen-making. Cool Moose Pens offers the same handmade reed pens that made the beautiful thick lettering found in centuries of Sephardic calligraphy possible.
Gurvits is a descendent of Rabbi Abraham Aaron Yudelovitch, a distinguished Talmudic scholar who served as Rabbi at New York’s historic Eldridge Street Synagogue and as Chief Rabbi of the Jewish Arbitration Court of NYC. Gurvits has been conducting genealogical research on Rabbi Yudelovitch’s ancestry and is active in his Jewish community. Professionally, he works as an editor of feature and documentary films.
